Bandcamp is an online platform that musicians can use to easily sell their music. Once an artist has created a profile, they can start adding ad selling their music. Bandcamp accounts for most types of releases such as EP’s, albums, single releases and even various collections of music.
Each track uploaded to an artist’s Bandcamp site has the ability to hold various metadata. This is a good feature if artists use it as it not only improves searchability but improves the music that they are selling. And the best point on this is that Bandcamp provides an area to enter both a tracks ISRC and what type of license their work falls under.
In addition, Bandcamp also holds a stats page where an artist can view how their music is being used. It displays the total plays, individual plays, buzz (bookmarks and direct messages), sales, and geographical activity.
What is unique about Bandcamp is that within the metadata, an artist can hold merchandise links, pre-orders, add additional bonus items, set the number of “free” plays, and set the price for their tracks. Once all of this is set, the Bandcamp player on the official Bandcamp website is user-friendly and can be embedded on personal websites.
One of the downsides of Bandcamp is their social media widgets and players. The Facebook Page widget is difficult to setup and use and does not have a good player interface.
Overall, I would recommend using Bandcamp as it is clearly beneficial to artists. Try it out for free and share your experience with us!
